LAS VEGAS -- SLS Las Vegas owner Alex Meruelo welcomed invited guests as he made a major announcement regarding the exciting changes happening at the casino-resort which continues to undergo a $100 million transformation. The SLS Las Vegas will now be known as Sahara Las Vegas, returning to the previous name of the resort, which opened as Hotel Sahara in 1952. The Sahara closed in 2011 before reopening in 2014 as the SLS. Meruelo says there will be new restaurants, bars, and casino floor as part of the renovation and name change. As part of the festivities, an army of drones lights up the sky and reveals the name change. Las Vegas, Nevada. June 27, 2019.
