20 January 2024 - The first ski jumping medals of the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 have been won at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre.
17-year-old Slovenian Taja Bodlaj took gold in the women’s normal hill individual, while the men’s normal hill individual was won in a dramatic finale by Ilya Mizernykh of Kazakhstan. His gold was the country’s first ever YOG ski jumping medal.
The final competitor in the men’s event, Lukasz Lukasczyk of Poland, needed a jump of over 100 metres to win gold, but having made the distance he couldn’t stay on his skis.
Lucasczyk had to settle for bronze, while Austria’s Niki Humml took silver. In the women’s event, Josie Johnson (USA) won silver behind champion Bodlaj, with Ingvild Synnoeve Midtskogen (NOR) in bronze medal position.
Gangwon 2024 runs until 1 February, with more than 1,800 athletes from 78 NOCs taking part. The Winter Youth Olympic Games is filmed for live television and digital streaming on the Olympic Channel via olympics.com and the Olympics app, with full session replays and highlights also available.
