17 March 2025 - The recently created Organising Committee for the Olympic Winter Games (OCOG) French Alps 2030 today gave its first presentation to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) in Costa Navarino, Greece.
The report was delivered by Organising Committee President and Olympic champion Edgar Grospiron alongside French Sports Minister and former Paris 2024 Executive Director of Impact and Legacy, Marie Barsacq.
In the context of the timelines set by the IOC EB to which the election of the French Alps by the IOC Session was subject, the French government confirmed its strong commitment to the project.
The first timeline was met with the submission of the Games Delivery Guarantee by former Prime Minister Michel Barnier on 2 October 2024. The second timeline was the ratification of such guarantee by the French Parliament no later than 1 March 2025.
The French budget law was adopted on 14 February, and this was followed by a letter from Prime Minister François Bayrou to the IOC detailing the government’s engagement process. The IOC will now assess these commitments with a view to moving forward with the Olympic Host Contract.
PROGRESS REPORT
The IOC Executive Board also noted the positive preparation steps already taken in addition to the creation of the OCOG and the appointment of Edgar Grospiron as its President on 18 February 2025.
One of them was the signing of the statutes in a show of support by all of the Organising Committee’s five founding members (National Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, and French national government), establishing governance mechanisms that are largely based on the successful model of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
SOLIDEO, the delivery authority for infrastructure projects that will be used or catalysed by the Games, was created on 13 February 2025, with Damien Robert appointed as Director General.
Finally, the IOC EB heard about the strategic areas that will be the focus of the Organising Committee for the immediate future:
- Establishing a clear vision, developing an engaging and cohesive communications programme and an overarching “Games Plan”.
- Structuring the OCOG, allowing parts of the organisation to be close to the host communities.
- Finalising the sports and discipline programme, as well as the venue masterplan.
- Continuing detailed planning for Games services in key areas such as accommodation and transport.
- Beginning immediate discussions with potential marketing partners.
- Preparing for the handover ceremony and observations at Milano Cortina 2026.
