Bhutan Post, the national postal operator, partners with Stampsdaq Estonia OU, a dedicated postal NFT company, to gradually tokenize into NFT the entire historic collection of Bhutan Post philatelic heritage.
THIMPHU, TALLIN, August 25, 2022. In August 2022, after several months of exciting and fruitful negotiations, the national postal operator of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Bhutan Post, signed a multi-year exclusive cooperation agreement with an EU-based Estonian NFT company Stampsdaq Estonia.
Sharing a mutual vision of extending and enriching postage stamp collecting experience, Bhutan Post and Stampsdaq aims to offer to tens of thousands of Bhutan Post’s existing philatelists as well as to a rapidly growing global community of NFT collectors an entertaining, interactive and rewarding NFT Stamps collecting experience on https://stampsdaq.com/
In the second half of September 2022, the stamp collectors around the world will have an opportunity to become the owners of the 1st NFT Stamp Limited Edition collection from Bhutan Post, featuring the famous 2014 historic stamps set “The 12 Deeds of Lord Buddha”. Each stamp of the set will have 5 NFT design variations ranging from Common to Unique. More details will be announced closer to the release date. Bhutan Post targets to tokenize into NFT its entire historic philatelic collection of postage stamps up to day as well as to release new NFT Stamps in the years to come.
“Since its invention in 2017, the NFT technology seem to solve the decade’s old issue of secure accounting and digital ownership of different digital assets – images, videos, audios, etc. and it opened the doors to creating truly legitimate and functional digital collectibles markets,” said Andrii Shapovalov, co-founder and CEO of Stampsdaq. “Postal industry, with its 182 years of philatelic heritage, has a great potential to become one of the biggest digital NFT collectibles markets worldwide.”
“Since late 2020, Stampsdaq has been introducing this opportunity to majority of postal operators directly and via its associate membership at. Post Group (Dot Post Group) and WADP (World Association for the Development of Philately) of the Universal Postal Union. And we are extremely happy and proud to have Bhutan Post as our first Asian partner and the first Asian operator to issue NFT Stamps!”
Philatelic heritage comprises over 900,000 stamps issued throughout the postal history and represent the estimated market potential of around 25billion USD in annual secondary sales by 2035 in game-and-utility format promoted by Stampsdaq. With over 60 million existing stamp collectors and over 28 million active NFT wallets, just end of 2021, this sales number may even seem conservative!
“Since many years, Bhutan Post has recognized philately for its core values and principles of communicating our county’s cultural, social and general human values to the world,” said Karma Nidup, the CEO of Bhutan Post.
“At the same time, our stamps have a proven historic record of innovations, starting from the “World First 3D stamps to the famous Talking Stamps Issue”. Now, in the era of disruptive technological innovations, Bhutan Post is also recognizing the potential and benefits of the blockchain technology in general and NFT technology for philately in particular. After considering the choices, we have made a decision to partner with Stampsdaq as their business model is echoing our long-term view for the NFT Stamps development. We both believe that creating extra utility benefits and live experiences for NFT Stamp collectors is the way to develop value and collectability for Bhutan Post’s NFT Stamps.”
Stampsdaq is developing as a dedicated partnership platform to facilitate the needs and create opportunities for and between postal operators and the global community of digital collectors with mainstream adoption of NFT Stamps in mind. Introducing new ways of interacting with postage stamp heritage, Stampsdaq also contributes to the development and rejuvenation of traditional stamp collecting as the underlying philatelic values are now being expanded and enriched with new possibilities offered by the digital world.
