VDMA: "Industry needs a strong united Europe"

Release Date: 25 Oct 2022   |   Frankfurt/Brussels
France and Germany are the engine of European economic development.

France and Germany are the engine of European economic development, and the two countries must not allow themselves to be divided. In view of the current tensions, a signal of cohesion is needed.

Frankfurt/Brussels, 25/10/2022 - Commenting on the meeting between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, VDMA President Karl Haeusgen says:

“France and Germany are the engine of European economic development, and the industries of both countries are strongly interlinked - including mechanical and plant engineering. Good political relations are also beneficial for Europe's economic stability. The European-based engineering industry therefore sees the current political tensions in Franco-German relations with concern.

France and Germany are the engine of European economic development.
Karl Haeusgen, President of VDMA

In difficult times, characterized by war, high energy prices and geopolitical upheavals, the two largest EU member states Germany and France must jointly take the lead in Europe and under no circumstances allow themselves to be divided, even if the interests of the two countries are not always identical. It is important that the two heads of state now seek a one-to-one conversation. It is the right moment to set a good example and send a signal of cohesion.
