Dressel Sets New Olympic Record to Land 100m Freestyle

Release Date: 29 Jul 2021

Team Speedo superstar Caeleb Dressel delivered a devastating swim to win the 100m freestyle gold, setting a new Olympic record in the process.

Dressel lead from start to finish after his signature tremendous start and came home strongly to post a time of 47.02 to edge rival Kyle Chalmers into second.

The American straddled the lane ropes in celebration after winning his second gold of the Tokyo Olympic Games, following his success in the 4x100m relay team.

Dressel was sporting the USA Federation print of the Speedo Fastskin LZR Pure Intent, a suit which he played a crucial role in the development of ahead of its release in 2019. The suit was designed with Tokyo in mind and Dressel’s feedback and advice has been vindicated on the biggest stage of them all.

Speaking to BBC immediately after the race, Dressel said: “There’s been a lot of pressure on me, there’s nothing wrong with pressure but there’s something wrong with stress. I handled it fine, I had a really fun race, I thought I executed it well and I’m happy!”
